Lighthouse Kids Inc. is located near my home town in Channahon Il.  Since it is so close to my home, I decided it was worth pursuing because it only took five minutes to get there.  Lighthouse is a smaller daycare facility with only 150 kids ranging from ages 1 1/2 years of age through 12 years of age.  I worked with the toddlers. I knew when I got hired this age group challenged me, and because I had not much expereince in a classroom with this particular age group, that it would be a great learning experience.  I enjoyed that I had free range with my lesson plans.  I could teach about any topic as long as I went over, shapes, colors, and numbers.  Being as this was such a small facility, I was able to learn a lot from the director and other teachers in the building.  I made sure that I was teaching the children topics that interested them, and topics that they were needing a little help with.  For example, we all know toddlers are very self-centered and have trouble expressing thier feeling, so one of my topics was EMOTION.  We went over our emotions using picutres and words to help them understand what they were feeling, so they could express themselves with words instead of cries or screams.
Found my internship to be successful because of the time and effort I put into it.  I was aware that I would receive a grade for my internship and that my employer would be evaluating me, so it was important that I completed all of my tasks in a timely manner, and was handling situations in a very professional manner.  I felt that because of my good communication skills with the parents, administration, and the way that I was with the children made me have a successful internship!
